a gentleman's family

I am now blessed in having my perfect wee family set-up; my baby girl, Mhirren, was born on the 6th February. My son, Kiefer, is only 18 months old so it is quite a busy and sleep-free household of late.

Obviously she is absolutely perfect and the prettiest bairn born since the birth of her elder brother. You get so fiercely proud of your family (without expectation), with regards to all aspects of their precious lives. On topics of a fierce nature I'll need to rein myself in and not be overly protective of my wee girl as she matures.

It's strange how different our ideas are, regarding the nurturing and general up-bringing of a boy and a girl! We expect the eldest boy to be protector and guide for any siblings, to be the strong and reliable one. Alternatively, a girl is expected to be that bit more precious and needful of protection and guidance. Are these the sowing of seeds of sexism to some degree or a natural balance to be maintained between the ying and the yang of the sexes?

However, it's more than likely me being deep and looking into something which does not require further investigation. In simple terms, you want your children to be the perfect human being that you never quite managed to be! Give them the tools they need to see them through the journey of life and keep your fingers crossed.

Anyway, the most troubling aspect of this of late is the fact I have what they term as a gentleman's family. Does anyone out there know how I'm meant to convert to this cult of gentlemandom? I am chivalrous and know my p's and q's etc. but how the hell can I acquire a gentleman's accent? If any of you out there know me I have a thicker Glaswegian accent than a Glasgow born bottle of marmite!

Ach well, I shall strive to thrive with my procurement of the holy grail of proper speech. The young Mhirren is trying to get my attention with a series of hic-hups. Kiefer will be up soon for lunch and the mrs is at the docs so super daddy to the rescue...wahey!

Hope you are all well and enjoying the trials of life as much as myself; it's free and it's fun!!!!
